katholisch.de - Conservative and reactionary bishops and clergy are now outbidding each other in the international competition for the snappiest rejection of the blessing of same-sex couples.
The Vatican declaration "Fiducia supplicans" from Monday may have been unusually endorsed by the signature of Pope Francis - but the opposition is there.
Much of the opposition comes from African countries. "Bishops give Pope Francis a rebuff" was the headline in the Malawi newspaper "The Nation" on Wednesday. The entire bishops' conference said "no" to any blessing of same-sex couples. The bishops in Zambia and Nigeria did the same. And in Kenya, the bishops went to great lengths to devalue the blessing that is now possible. The Archbishop of Mombasa, Martin Kivuva, emphasised that there is no acceptance of same-sex marriages in African culture.
